FAQ

What is this masterclass thing?
This is our way of helping aspiring music photographers learn about the industry from an experienced point of view. We can tell you how things work from a real world, practical perspective, not a university lecture hall version of freelance photography.
When is the masterclass taking place?
July 17th, at The Shed Studio, Haggerston.
How long will it last?
We plan to start at 10.00 and wrap up around 16.00, with a break for lunch in the middle.
What will you be covering?
We'll be going through the ins and outs of freelance life, getting touring work, keeping your clients happy, how to survive life on the road, editorial work for magazines and more. We'll be telling some stories and answering any questions that you have. In the afternoon we'll be bringing a band in to the studio and showing you a typical 'on the road' backstage style photoshoot, after which everyone will have time with the band to take their own shots.
How do I know this is going to be good for me?
We'll sending out a Google form closer to the day, where you can tell us a bit about yourself, and where you are on your photography journey so we can tailor this the best we can for everyone. There will also be an option to send in your Q&A questions in advance.
Do I need to bring stuff?
Maybe a pen and a notebook if you're old school, or anything else to make notes on. You're welcome to bring a laptop if you have questions about editing. You should bring your camera, as there will be a practical session in the afternoon, but we will also make our gear available to you.
Does it matter if I'm not that experienced?
Nope, not at all. We'll be talking through things in a simple, easy to follow way, and giving practical tips which will be applicable at whatever level you're at. We won't be explaining how to shoot a live show (we expect you can do that already), but we are happy to discuss technique if that interests you.
Will there be refreshments?
We’ll have coffee, tea and tasty alcohol free beer from our friends in mash gang
